Münchhausen Trakehner Sire of the Year

The 16-year-old elite stallion Münchhausen will be honoured as Stallion of the Year by the Trakehner Association at the 49th Trakehner Stallion Market on October 20th-23rd in Neumünster’s Holstenhalle.


Münchhausen is by Hohenstein x Königsstein, bred by Ursula Schaefer, Westerstede in Germany and standing at stud at the German stallion station Wiesenhof. Münchhausen was the 2-year-old licensing champion in Neumünster i 1997 and moved on to become best dressage stallion at the stallion performance test in Neustadt-Dosse. Münchhausen was a multiple finalist at the German Federal Championships for Young Horses in Warendorf and won the silver medal at the World Championships for Young Horses in Verden at the age of six.


Münchhausen became a Danish dressage team horse under the saddle of Fie S. Skarsoe and captured many wins and placings in international Grand Prix. He was on the Danish team at the European Dressage Championships 2005 in Hagen.


As a progenitor of highly decorated mares, approved stallions and successful dressage horses Münchhausen has shone for years, not only within the Trakehner breeding but within many warmblood studbooks in Germany and worldwide. For a number of years he has placed in the top five of the German dressage index ranking (FN).
